The 117-year-old laboratory was among the first firms to market insulin in Europe, and by the late-1930s, Gedeon Richter Plc had become one of Hungary’s largest exporters, with operations in five continents. After World War 2, however, the company lost its export markets and subsidiaries in Western Europe and turned its resources and focus on researching original drugs.

Using its own process to manufacture vitamin B12 helped the company return to prominence in the global market. By the 1960s, Gedeon Richter Plc was the leading supplier of the Soviet Union. More successes followed, including the worldwide introduction in 1977 of Cavinton, which improved circulation in the brain and remains among its best-know products.

Today, the company has increased its footprint in the Commonwealth of Independent States, the European Union, Japan, China, and the United States and is represented in more than 38 countries with five manufacturing facilities, 29 representative offices, and 38 sales subsidiaries and wholesale companies.

Founded in 1943, the company manufactures, distributes, and exports pharmaceuticals to 19 countries, with another 18 either pending registration or under negotiation. SamChunDang (SCD) offers ophthalmology, cardiovascular, endocrinology, antibacterial, anti-fungal, antiviral, respiratory, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, and musculoskeletal products, as well as gastro intestines and vitamins. 

The company inaugurated its Central Research Institute in 1994 with the purpose of discovering and developing innovative, cost-effective medicines. Within three years, SCD Central Research Institute had developed—using nanotechnology—a preparation of microsphere using a spray dryer that displayed enhanced solubility and decreased crystallinity for poorly water-soluble drugs. Currently, SCD’s research activities are focused on developing incrementally modified drugs for incurable diseases, such as diabetes and hyperlipidemia, as well as strengthening the company’s core technology in the fields of specialized formulation and ocular permeation research.

In its first incarnation 70 years ago, the company became the first powder-needle manufacturer in Central South and South China, and the first cephalosporin powder manufacturer in Guangzhou. 

Today, Guangzhou Baiyunshan Tianxin is a diversified conglomerate that offers more than 200 kinds of products in dosage forms such as powder injection, small-volume injection, and oral solid preparation. It has six core patent technologies for:

In 2018, for the seventh year in a row, the company secured first place in the “Top 100 List of China's Pharmaceutical Industry” sponsored by the Southern Medicine and Economics Research Institute of the State Food and Drug Administration and published by the Pharmaceutical Economics News.

Shortly after being founded in 1987, the company established a central research center and instituted a system for the selective adoption of advanced technologies from around the world. Kyongbo Pharmaceutical eventually became the first company in South Korea to develop the antibiotic Cefaclor.

The company’s continuing advancements in manufacturing and quality-management standards have even earned it cGMP certifications from various authorities, such as FDA in US, EDQM in Europe, PMDA in Japan, and CFDA in the China, giving Kyongbo Pharmaceutical the license to manufacture active ingredients for sterile injectables and first-generic drugs.

Today, the company exports over US$85,000,000 worth of products like cephalosporin antibiotics, antihyperlipidemic agents, and anti-cancer drugs to more than 30 countries.
